As Newmont sought to significantly expand its mining operations in Ahafo, they faced extreme logistical and environmental hurdles. The expansion required massive structural upgrades, heavy-duty civil works, and the installation of large-scale extraction infrastructure in a remote and harsh terrain. A critical constraint was the absolute necessity to execute these upgrades without disrupting the ongoing daily extraction processes, which meant working around active heavy machinery and maintaining zero-tolerance safety buffers.
ArtSpec mobilized a specialized multi-disciplinary team consisting of senior civil engineers, structural fabricators, and certified riggers. We established a localized pre-fabrication yard to minimize on-site assembly time. The team executed precision civil works, pouring high-strength foundations tailored for seismic activity, and erected heavy structural steel frameworks using precision crane lifts during tightly coordinated operational windows. Every phase was governed by strict international mining safety protocols.
The project was delivered exactly on schedule with zero Lost Time Incidents (LTI free). The new structural installations allowed Newmont to increase their processing capacity by 35%, future-proofing the facility against increasing extraction demands while maintaining rigorous environmental compliance.
